According to Airbnb, travelers are seeking short term rentals in rural areas close to home but major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle are popular for long term summer stays too.

Rural getaways with access to the outdoors will be very popular this summer in comparison to previous summers.

Airbnb’s report reads, “This great escape to rural is a trend we’re seeing across all groups and locations. In 2015, rural travel accounted for less than 10% of nights booked globally on AIrbnb, and in 2021, it now accounts for more than double that and is oftentimes triple in many countries including Canada(43%) France(45%) U.K.(48%) Australia (42%) and U.S. (28%)

The top international rural destinations are: France, From Paris to Var Italy: From Rome to Sardinia, Korea: From Seoul to Jeju Spain: From Barcelona to Costa Blanca U.K. From London to Cornwall.

The top U.S. destinations this summer are: Whitefish Mountain, Montana, South County, Rhode Island, Bancroft-Madagascar, Canada, Panama City Beach, Florida, West Yellowstone, Montana, Florida, Panhandle, Northern Wisconsin, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Black Hills, South Dakota, Miramar Beach, Florida, Park County, Montana, Great Lakes Michigan and Acadia National Park.
